Our Impact
GGF invests in research to continually assess and improve our projects and maximize our impact.
We measure our impact against nine of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Our Purpose
- UN GOALS
Our work against these goals
Our work focuses on improving the lives of under-resourced and indigenous communities in Peru. Nearly 4,200 people in 18 communities neighbor our project in the Rio Napo and Rio Marañón area. Many of these communities live subsistence livelihoods with limited access to healthcare, energy, communications, education.
By working with people living just outside of our project areas, we are equipping them with the skills, support, and market access to make sustainable use of the forest’s resources and reduce poverty.
- UN GOALS
Our work against these goals
Advancing local communities is at the heart of our work. We provide them with skills, jobs, education, training, infrastructure, equipment, access to markets, and investment.
Since 2021, we have:
- Created economic opportunities for more than 320 local people
- Launched a community-centered schools environmental education program
- Trained 30 community members as forest custodians
Trained community fruit harvesters in sustainable techniques and health and safety
- UN GOALS
Our work against this goal
Most of the forest under our management is designated to our carbon project. This implements a “no-logging” regime to protect the forest’s natural carbon capture and storage capacity. Over the next 20 years, our project is expected to result in 10 million metric tons of CO2.
- UN GOALS
Our work against this goal
Part of the forest under our management is designated specifically to ecosystem enhancement, including tree planting, agroforestry and land restoration, to restore nature and biodiversity.
We sponsor research programs, investigating how non-timber resources in the forest can be used by local communities. Meanwhile, the research center we are developing will help generate deeper understanding of rainforest ecosystems.
