Our Story
Green Gold Forestry Peru SA (GGF) is a Peruvian conservation company, and one of the largest conservation initiatives in Peru. Our stewardship encompasses 254,000 hectares of Amazonian rainforest, an area almost three times the area of Manhattan.
Our work focuses on increasing carbon storage in the forest, promoting biodiversity, and providing long-term socio-economic benefits to improve the lives of our neighboring indigenous communities, with the goal of protecting the Peruvian Amazonian rainforest in perpetuity.
We are driven by our belief that forest resources can be managed in a way that is truly sustainable and for-profit, protecting Peru’s remarkable fauna and flora for posterity. We work to halt forest degradation and deforestation by preventing logging, protect and restore biodiversity, promote the sustainable use of forest resources, restore degraded forest. Our impact is referenced against the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We are looking to partner with organizations looking to offset their unavoidable emissions in a way that benefits both people and the planet by selling Verra-certified Verified Carbon Units (VCUs). Over the next 20 years, our carbon project is expected to result in 10 million metric tons of CO2 reductions.
Our Purpose
Enhance the forest as a store of carbon and protect Peru’s remarkable fauna and flora forever
Peru’s rainforest is home to at least 222 endangered species, of which 31 are facing extinction, 89 are classified as vulnerable, and 22 are rare. By protecting the forest and restoring biodiversity in our conserved areas, we support the rainforest as a life source. (Perunorth, 2022)
Partner with forest communities and promote economic growth in some of Peru’s poorest regions.
GGF puts the economic well-being of local communities and the sustainable use of resources at the heart of what we do. Nearly 4,500 people in eighteen communities neighbor our project in the Rio Napo area. Many have subsistence livelihoods with limited access to healthcare, energy, communications, education – we work to change that.
Invest in the research of forest resources to uncover new opportunities for the sustainable use of the forest
We support the culture and livelihoods of communities who neighbor our forest through job creation, training, education, and investment in infrastructure and we invest in business opportunities that empower local people. Our work is underpinned by investment in research and development in collaboration with international organizations and native communities.
Our Values
GGF is committed to:
High quality carbon credits that deliver sustained benefits for local communities
Measuring our impact against the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Maintaining the highest standards of forest stewardship
Our work is informed by science and we are trusted partners for NGOs, businesses, universities and other research organizations.
Our mission is to prove how our model of forest management can create multiple positive and reinforcing outcomes for people and nature.
