As part of its commitment to the social development of communities neighboring its forestry concessions, Green Gold Forestry conducted the workshop “Gender and Community Leadership: Leading and Taking Care of Ourselves,” aimed at women from the Rango Isla Native Community, located in the Napo District, Maynas Province.
The activity took place on May 27 and was designed to strengthen women’s leadership, self-esteem, and participation skills, while also promoting violence prevention and awareness of sexual and reproductive rights through an intercultural approach.
The workshop was organized and facilitated by Green Gold Forestry’s Community Relations team, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting and strengthening capacities within its communities of influence.
The event brought together 10 women from the community, who participated in activities focused on strengthening personal and community skills, addressing topics such as self-esteem, leadership, communication, violence prevention, and the promotion of participation spaces.
Through participatory methodologies and activities adapted to the local context, participants reflected on their role within the community, identified opportunities to strengthen their leadership, and shared experiences that contribute to building safer and more collaborative environments.
For Araceli Aliaga, Community Relations Specialist at Green Gold Forestry Peru, these initiatives represent an opportunity to promote local development through community participation.
“We believe that capacity building is a key tool for creating opportunities and fostering more active participation within communities,” she stated.
This activity is part of the work Green Gold Forestry carries out alongside communities neighboring its operations, promoting actions focused on capacity building, dialogue, and the creation of opportunities for local development.
It is worth noting that this initiative traces its origins back to 2025, when a pilot workshop focused on gender issues was implemented. The experience and lessons learned from that initiative served as the foundation for the design and implementation of this year’s activities.
Through initiatives such as these, the company reaffirms its commitment to working collaboratively with Amazonian communities, contributing to capacity building, the promotion of gender equity, and the well-being of local residents.
