From August 24 to 27, representatives of 36 Indigenous and peasant communities from the Amazon, Napo, Blanco, and Marañón rivers participated in a Life Plans presentation held in the city of Iquitos, bringing their priorities and proposals to public institutions.
As part of this initiative, Green Gold Forestry (GGF) accompanied the Indigenous communities of Solterito and Villa Monte Alegre, located in the Marañón River basin and partners of the Green Gold Loreto 1 (GGL1) project, throughout the preparation and presentation of their community planning instruments.
The initiative was led by the Center for the Development of the Amazonian Indigenous Peoples (CEDIA), and in coordination with the Regional Sub-Management Office for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of the Regional Government of Loreto and Green Gold Forestry.
Life plans: A roadmap built by the communities
Life Plans are community planning instruments that enable communities to define a shared vision for the future and identify their main priorities in areas such as organization, well-being, development, and territorial management.
The Life Plans of Solterito and Villa Monte Alegre were developed through a participatory process in 2025, with the support of GGF and CEDIA. Since then, both communities have been using these instruments to guide their efforts and communicate their main needs to the relevant institutions.
As part of its Life Plan, Solterito has prioritized the revitalization of the Kukama Kukamiria language, education, forest guardian training, and community infrastructure. Villa Monte Alegre, meanwhile, has highlighted actions related to strengthening its community monitoring committee, equipping its community first-aid center, and developing leadership capacities.
“The Life Plan is a tool built by the community itself. Our role is to accompany this process and help ensure that their priorities are known and coordinated with the relevant institutions” said Paula Diaz, Head of Community Relations.
From dialogue to action on community priorities
As part of the event, delegations from Solterito and Villa Monte Alegre participated in training and preparation sessions to strengthen their presentation skills and effectively communicate their main priorities to representatives of public institutions.
The main event, held on August 27, brought together representatives from 20 public institutions, including SERFOR, OSINFOR, DIRESA, RENIEC, AGROIDEAS, the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Loreto, UGEL Maynas, and local governments.
The event strengthened direct dialogue between communities and public institutions, creating opportunities for the priorities identified in their Life Plans to move toward concrete actions and initiatives.
Continuing to build from the territory
As part of GGF’s ongoing support, each community formally received 50 printed copies of its Life Plan, a USB drive containing the digital version, and calendars. These materials will support the dissemination and continued follow-up of their Life Plans within the communities.
Through this work, GGF reaffirms its commitment to supporting its community partners in strengthening community governance, participatory planning, and their capacity to manage their own priorities, contributing to the sustainable management of their territories.
