On June 14th to 23rd, GGF conducted a theoretical and practical training focused on solid waste disposal and recycling in the native community of Bellavista, partner of the project “Sustainable Management of Forest Concessions”. The workshop was aimed at 26 young people and adults from the community, who later practiced what they learned through the creation of recycling bins located in different parts of the community. This initiative of GGF and CCNN Bellavista allows the establishment of recycling habits in the villagers, ensuring the improvement of environmental quality

The theorical training included basic concepts of recycling, segregation of solid waste by colour, and the importance and benefits of recycling. Subsequently, the participants practiced what they had learned by creating 9 recycling bins made of local wood, and then painted them according to the guidelines of the Peruvian Technical Standard[1].

GGF’s Community Relations Analyst, Karla Pinedo, who led the training, notes the villagers’ enthusiasm for this initiative, as they are concerned about the environment, and “are very respectful of the nature they live with, showing great willingness to learn and replicate their knowledge among generations to maintain the ecological culture in the community”. Currently, there are plans to replicate this activity in the rest of the project’s partner communities.
