From November 18th to 25th, Green Gold Forestry carried out several educational and awareness workshops on the importance of preserving and caring for the environment, with the main objective of alerting about the harmful consequences of the contamination of our soils and rivers with waste and rubbish, at the same time presenting a set of good environmental practices such as recycling of organic and plastic waste, cleaning of rubbish in the streets, proper disposal of contaminating materials, etc. The workshops were aimed at primary school students in seven communities[1] and one village[2] within the area of influence of the project “Sustainable Management of Forest Concessions”.
In coordination with the representatives of educational centres in the different communities, different activities were carried out to raise awareness, provide information and promote actions to benefit the environment, such as the creation of pencil cases from recyclable materials and the collection of solid waste in areas close to the facilities. These initiatives will develop the children’s sense of environmental responsibility, awakening their interest in the environment and their will to preserve it.
To ensure the wellbeing of the project’s partner communities, GGF plans to hold vocational talks aimed at students who are about to finish their schooling. This activity will be carried out in the coming months to encourage and motivate students to improve themselves personally and professionally.
