With the aim of strengthening environmental awareness from the earliest years of life, Green Gold Forestry (GGF), through its Community Relations Department, implemented the environmental curriculum “The River as a Source of Food and Life” during April 2026 in several communities located in the Marañón and Napo river basins in the Loreto region.
The initiative was aimed at preschool children and students attending PRONOEI (non-school early childhood education programs), promoting recognition of the river as a fundamental element for food security, culture, and the well-being of Amazonian communities. Through participatory methodologies and activities adapted to the local context, students reflected on the importance of conserving aquatic ecosystems, practicing responsible fishing, and protecting natural resources.
This activity is especially relevant because environmental education in early childhood is a key tool for fostering values and habits that support environmental stewardship. In communities where rivers are an essential source of livelihood and development, promoting knowledge and responsible attitudes from an early age helps build future citizens committed to the sustainable use of natural resources.
The sessions were carried out in communities located in the Marañón, Napo 1, Napo 2 areas, and in the native community of Rango Isla, benefiting 176 children through dynamic learning experiences that combined games, artistic expression, and observation of their surroundings.
The results demonstrated active student participation and a greater understanding of the ecological and social value of Amazonian rivers. In addition, participants strengthened their ability to recognize responsible practices related to the protection of aquatic resources and the conservation of local ecosystems.
The implementation of this environmental curriculum is part of the work that GGF has been carrying out with its partner communities since 2022, focused on capacity building and promoting a sustainable relationship with the environment. Through these actions, the organization reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility from childhood.
