Green Gold Forestry Peru (GGF) was recognized in the first edition of the Bioinversión Amazónica 2025 competition, an initiative promoted by the Financial Facility for Eco and Bio Businesses in the Amazon (EBBF Amazonía) program, implemented by Profonanpe in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment in Peru and funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The company was selected as one of the eight winners of the program, which aims to strengthen more than 50 Amazonian bio-businesses over the next decade, contributing to the development of an inclusive and sustainable bioeconomy in the region.

Chosen among 64 applicants after a rigorous evaluation process and field visits, GGF reinforces its leadership as a company committed to promoting sustainable production models and businesses that create a positive impact in the Peruvian Amazon.

The announcement was made during the International Forum on Green Finance (FIVERDE) and featured the participation of Gareth Hughes, CEO of Green Gold Forestry; Sebastián Masgos, Head of Productive Projects; Sandro Soplín, Area Coordinator; and Gretel Padilla, Investment and Business Development Executive, who led the company’s submission.

As a result of this recognition, GGF will implement a pilot module for aguaje oil processing in the Napo River basin (Loreto), strengthening the value chain of this emblematic Amazonian fruit and promoting a model that integrates conservation, economic development, and community well-being.

The initiative will generate more than 40 permanent jobs, prioritizing the participation of men and women from native communities such as Copal Urco, Patria Nueva, San Felipe, Chambira, and Santa María de Loreto. Through formalization, capacity building, and organizational strengthening, families will transition from informal fruit trading to participating in a sustainable value chain with access to higher-value markets and improved economic conditions.

The project also directly contributes to the active conservation of 8,717 hectares of Amazonian forest and the sustainable management of over 2,400 hectares of aguaje swamps, through harvesting practices that prevent the felling of female palms. These actions promote natural forest regeneration, the preservation of key species, and the maintenance of these ecosystems as natural carbon sinks—essential in the fight against climate change.

Additionally, the cold-pressed aguaje oil will open doors to international markets specializing in cosmetics and nutraceuticals, meeting high standards of traceability, quality, and environmental sustainability. This pilot module represents a decisive step toward establishing a larger-scale processing plant, positioning Loreto as a hub of innovation and bioeconomic development in the Peruvian Amazon.

“This recognition demonstrates that sustainable production models are a real opportunity to improve the quality of life of local communities while conserving our forests. It is the result of years of teamwork, learning, and commitment to a shared purpose: an Amazon that thrives without being destroyed,” said Sebastián Masgos.

Through this initiative, Green Gold Forestry Peru reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable development model that promotes forest conservation, expands opportunities for local communities, and proves that the bioeconomy is a viable path toward a fairer, more prosperous, and balanced future.
